Cardoon is a very old, perennial vegetable from the Mediterranean, the bleached leaf ribs are eaten cooked. To this end, one should wrap the plant with a burlap sack around 3 weeks before flowering. Most cardoon however, is cultivated because of the very beautiful, artichoke-like flowers. If you sow in time, cardoon starts flowering already in the first year. The crop can tolerate a lot of frost. So only cover in severe cold.
Sow in a greenhouse in the course of April or direct end of May. Spacing 80 x 60 cm. 1 packet of 4 m2.
