Japanese pepper tree (Zanthoxylum piperitum)

Japanese pepper tree grows in the hills and mountains of Japan, making it hardy to about -15 degrees Celsius. The small tree or shrub stays of up to 2 meters rather small and smelling delicious, aromatic, glossy leaves. The small, greenish-yellow flowers are followed by red fruits of 5 mm. These fruits are dried in Japan and widely used in Japanese cuisine. They are also a component of five-spice powder 'five-spices, a Chinese herb mixture. In this red fruits are black seeds that can be ground and used as pepper. Harvesting peppers from the garden with this plant so possible! Seed description:
