Mini Kiwi Issai is a variety that has been selected in Japan, probably from a cross of Actinidia arguta Actinidia with poly gama. It is therefore a kind of cross which result in growth and appearance which differs from the pure mini kiwis. Unlike most other breeds, the Mini Kiwi Issai ambiguous and therefore self-pollinating. It blooms later than other mini-kiwi varieties, making it as pollinator for other varieties is less suitable. Mini Kiwi Issai grows less vigorously than the other mini-kiwi varieties and more compact which makes the Mini Kiwi Issai suitable for smaller gardens or as a pot plant. The plant quickly into production and can already bear fruit from the second year.
The fruits have a smooth skin and ripen on the plant, so they can be eaten directly from the plant with zest. The kiwis are harvested in September and are packed with vitamin C. Commercial manages not to market these hardy kiwi, because harvesting is labor intensive, the fruits are short shelf life and people do not associate with kiwi fruit. More fun to grow these little-known kiwi itself. The species is fully hardy, but a shelter from the wind with sun is better for fruiting.
