The mountain cabbage tree originally grows in the cool mountain forests of New Zealand and is characterized by its wide, 2 meters long, blue-gray foliage. The fibers of the sheet are very strong and are used amongst others in fishing by Maori. The young stems are eaten as a vegetable.
The apparent strain can reach a height in the nature of 8 meters. In the Netherlands, we can keep the species as a pot plant, allowing the plant will stay smaller. The minimum temperature is namely around -10 degrees Celsius, so you have to get inside the plant in most winters. At a shelter are older plants, however, quite hardy, especially in coastal areas, so they could grow in the ground.
