Japanese walnut tree (Ginkgo biloba)

Japanese walnut or ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) is a tree from the Ginkgoaceae family is originally from China. The species is grown and is no longer known in the wild. The plant is seen as a living fossil due to the fact that it is the only remaining species of both the genus Ginkgo as the family Ginkgoaceae. The species is also called Japanese or Chinese temple tree.

Japanese walnut tree is dioecious. Worldwide, there are fewer female than male ones. Man selective plant male trees because the "fruit" spread an unpleasant odor. Seeds advance cautiously notching with a knife or saw and then 24 hours soaking in water. Floating seeds can be better notched and will not germinate otherwise. Sinking can be sown in a mixture of sowing soil and sand (4: 1) and at 20-25 grC are germinated (seeds lightly covered with soil). Keep soil constantly moist. Germination usually after 4-5 weeks.
